Your Reader for Every Scene
No reader?
No problem.
Run lines. Rehearse. Self-tape.
SideRunner reads the other characters and listens for your lines, so you can run a scene like a live read.
The demo scene opens right away. No account needed.
01/Bring in your sides
Your sides. Your scene.
Upload a PDF, DOCX, TXT or scanned PDF. For a short side, paste the text straight in. SideRunner is built for audition sides and individual scenes.
Scripts can be messy. Imports don't always get everything right. That's why SideRunner makes fixes easy. Edit a line, change who's saying it, add or remove lines, and split or merge scenes. It even flags likely stage directions so they're easy to find.
02/Shape the scene
Set the beat. The reader holds it.
Pick the role you're playing and everyone else becomes a reader. Give each character its own voice and set the reader's pace. Add a pause between two lines, or within one of your own, to give a moment room to land.
SIDERUNNER
The scene moves with you.
03/Rehearse
You play your part. It reads the rest.
SideRunner listens while you perform and responds when it detects that you've finished speaking. There's no fixed timer, so you can deliver the line at your own pace. If it isn't advancing, or you lose your place, Next → is always there.
- On the web, rehearse with Your Reader or use Teleprompter to scroll the script.
- On iPhone, Rehearsal Space is a camera-free way to run the scene.
- Rehearsing needs a microphone and an internet connection.
SIDERUNNER
Self-tape with your reader built in.
04/Self-tape
Record the take with your reader in the room.
On iPhone, SideRunner reads the other parts while you record your self-tape. Review each take and choose Keep Take, Retake, or Discard Take. The takes you keep save to your phone's Photos.
Self-tape is available only on iPhone, not on the web.
05/Web and iPhone
Less managing. More acting.
Sign in with the same account to keep your scripts and sides in sync. Import or edit in either place, and your changes are available on the other.
Your scenes stay private to your account.
WEB APP
More room for script prep, including pasting a script in and splitting or merging longer scripts. Rehearse with Your Reader or Teleprompter.
IPHONE APP
Where you rehearse away from your desk and record self-tapes. Requires iOS 13.4 or later.

07/Questions
Straight answers.
Do I need another person to read with me?
No. SideRunner reads the other characters for you and listens for your lines, so you can run the lines back and forth like a live read. If you have a self-tape due and nobody's free, here are your options for a self-tape reader.
How does SideRunner know when I've finished my line?
SideRunner listens while you perform and responds when it detects that you've finished speaking. There's no fixed timer, so you can deliver the line at your own pace.
What should I do if the reader isn't advancing?
Make sure SideRunner can hear you clearly. Speaking a little louder or reducing background noise may help. You can also click Next → at any time to move to the next line.
What can I upload?
PDF, DOCX or TXT, and scanned PDFs work too. You can also paste a script straight in, which is quickest for a short side.
What kinds of scripts work best?
SideRunner is built for audition sides and individual scenes: a few pages, clearly laid out. Full screenplays, heavily marked-up pages, crossed-out lines, handwritten notes, unusual formatting and rough scans may not come through cleanly. Look over the scene after you import it and fix anything that's off before you rehearse.
What if the script comes in wrong?
You can fix it. Edit a line's wording, change who says a line, add or remove lines, and split a script into separate scenes or merge scenes back together. SideRunner flags lines that look like stage directions so they're quick to find.
How do I choose which character I'm playing?
Once your script is loaded, pick your role under “Your character”. Everyone else becomes a reader. You can change your character at any time and the scene re-scopes to that role.
Can I adjust the timing between lines?
Yes. Open Edit timing, then click between two lines to add a pause there, or between words to add a pause mid-line. It's a good way to give a moment room to land.
Can I record a self-tape on the web app?
Not on the web. Self-tapes are recorded in the iPhone app, where your camera is. Prepare the scene here, and it will be waiting on your phone when you sign in with the same account.
Do my scripts and sides sync between the web app and my phone?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on the web and iPhone, and your scripts and sides stay in sync. Built-in sample scenes aren't saved to your account.
